Summer Screams & Sequels: Horror Flicks in 2025
Summer is heating up, and not just because the planet’s on fire (seriously, use eco-friendly deodorant, folks) and I’m trying to figure out which horror movies are actually worth leaving the house for. There’s a weird mix of long-delayed sequels, reboots nobody asked for, and a few that might actually surprise us.
Here’s what I’m checking out (or skipping), plus a little Blu-ray deal at the end you might wanna jump on before it disappears.
🧟 June 20 – 28 Years Later
It’s finally happening. 28 Years Later is shambling into theaters, and I’m cautiously hyped. The original (28 Days Later) was a gritty, rage-fueled gut-punch that rewrote the rules for zombie cinema. The sequel (28 Weeks Later)? Not quite the masterpiece, but it had its moments, like Robert Carlyle outrunning infected hordes like a chaotic dad on Black Friday.
Now, decades later (literally), we’re getting the third chapter. Can it recapture the bleak brilliance of the first? Will Cillian Murphy show up and make us cry again? I’ll be there opening weekend, popcorn in hand and expectations in check. Stay tuned for a full breakdown, and hopefully some great kills to discuss.
🤖 June 27 – M3GAN 2.0
Okay, confession: I dragged my feet on watching M3GAN. Something about killer AI dolls doing TikTok dances just felt… off. But I finally gave in, and surprise! It was a delightfully dumb good time. Campy, slick, and just the right amount of satirical.
Now we’ve got M3GAN 2.0 on the horizon. Did we need a sequel? For studio execs counting box office dollars, absolutely. For me? Meh. I’ll catch this one eventually, but I’m not sprinting to the theater. Let’s just say this sequel's getting the "stream it for free" treatment. Still, I'm curious to see how they upgrade her murder software this time.
☢️ August 29 – The Toxic Avenger
Ah, The Toxic Avenger. The 1984 original is pure Troma madness, grotesque, hilarious, and gloriously low-budget. The new remake? It’s already getting roasted online, which honestly just makes me more interested.
I’m going in with low expectations but high hopes that they at least preserved the absurd spirit of the OG. If they’ve leaned into the weird and wacky instead of trying to go full grimdark reboot, I’ll probably have some nice things to say. Either way, I’ll let the mutant mayhem wash over me and report back with thoughts (and possibly radiation burns).
💿 Bonus Scream-Worthy Blu-ray Deal
Okay, so these flicks aren’t dropping this summer, but this Amazon Blu-ray deal is absolute 🔥 and deserves your attention. Right now, you can Buy One, Get One 50% Off, and they’ve got legit horror gold in the mix.
I’m talking:
🧛 The Monster Squad (because wolfman’s got nards, obviously)
🔥 Jason Goes to Hell (deep-cut chaos you need on your shelf)
Deals like this don’t last forever, so grab ‘em before they disappear like a dumb teen in the woods.
Final Thoughts
This summer’s horror lineup is a mixed bag of long-gestating sequels, reboots no one asked for, and potential surprises. Whether you're team “see it opening night” or “wait ‘til it streams,” there’s something for every flavor of fear fan. I’ll be covering these as they drop, so grab your ethically-sourced popcorn and keep it locked here for reviews, rants, and maybe a few scream-induced existential crises.
Got a horror pick you’re hyped about? Drop it in the comments—I love hearing what you creeps are into. 🧛♀️
